Why I Support the Urban League:
During my first week of employment at the Urban League of Greater Cincinnati, I attended a SOAR graduation ceremony. One of the graduates stood up, beaming with pride, and shared with the audience that before attending SOAR, he did not know how to tie a necktie, he did not own a business suit and he never imagined that he could actually get interview offers. Yet, thanks to his SOAR trainer, he learned how tie his own necktie. Above all, he was immensely happy about finally having gained the tools and confidence needed to obtain and retain employment, and provide for his family.
Right then and there, I was sold. It was just my 3rd day on the job, but I instantly saw that as the Director of Annual Giving, I would not only be promoting the financial sustainability of a historically significant social justice organization -- my work would actually help change lives!
Over 75% of SOAR graduates obtain jobs that pay $10.40 or more per hour. Many of them have felonies on their reocords. Some were unemployed for years. Yet, ALL of them gradute from SOAR prepared to enter the workforce and achieve personal success.
Please join me in the Give 60 Campaign for the Urban League of Greater Cincinnati by donating $60 or more. With just 23 contributions of $60 ($1,350 total), we can collectively sponsor an individual’s growth and development into a self-sufficient, actively engaged member society.
Donations of any amount signify a belief in the right for all people to have meaningful access to opportunities to achieve self-reliance. Together, we can make our community a better place for everyone to live, work and thrive!
